Seemed like the cop turned the lights on just as he would've noticed the 2 cars. Could've been to suggest to us that the cop simply didn't want to bother with a fender bender and hit the lights to justify ignoring it.

  • Did they ever explain the cop car …

I don't agree nor disagree with you but can I just say - for all the dumbass posts ("the lead female isn't attractive") these are the types of posts I will miss when Imdb sheds it's messageboards. I salute you, sir! Fare thee well.

Mysterious Skin(2004) and Boys Don't Cry(1999) had some intense and traumatizing rape scenes as I recall. This movie's rape scene, the one that made it into the final cut as a flashback no less, was tame by comparison.

  • Never thought hollywood would make movies with scary rape scenes…,

I've been reading all kinds of fantastical theories, but really the movie is not that deep. That all the characters except Tony/Edward were manifestations of Susuan's persona, that he had cancer, committed suicide, so on and so on.
What I gathered from the film was that Susan now at a low point in her life, in a loveless marriage where she is being cheated on by her husband, Hutton ( good luck getting a man that good looking to be faithful ) her work is passionless and mundane, she is surrounded by the fake, the processed, sleep deprived, utterly miserable, and isolated.
The novel served as a simple "look I did it, proved you wrong" showing to her that he could write a novel, however he attained the necessary particulars through extreme pain and loss. One of the themes of the film was that Susan was not truly a creative, she knew this later in her life.
Edward's novel, and standing her up at the restaurant did two things.

Left her, and compounded the reality, alone and broken, just as she had left him. Will now brand her with so much hurt, it will give life to her art.
  • What do you think *SPOILER ALERT*

I have felt what Edward felt.
You've been cuckolded because you were useless in the sack like Edward? That's so sad, man - but do you really expect Susan to spend the rest of her life with some dude who can't get her off? That sweet bod being wasted on a 'weak' loser - it just ain't right.
