Why was this a racist joke? It was a sarcastic comment made under the false-sentiment of "agreement" with her boss and client. She's a woman in 1964it's not like she's going to convince any of the men around her to be woke.
And no, Peggy wouldn't have said it because Peggy would have barely recognized the social dynamics at that point. -
