Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Bobbie Phillips

    mollytft — 18 years ago(March 05, 2008 09:17 AM)

There is a reason that all of her movies usually get only one star. She is a horrible actress. She is almost robotic and wooden with her dialogue.

First of all, you're obviously jealous! This is based on all of your idiotic posts on IMDB. Secondly, why do you care so much to write on here? Some of the movies she's been in were bombs but that's true with most actors. She's amazingly versatile and her television roles have been extremely versatile. From X-files to Two Guys and a girl, to Dharma and Greg and Murder One to name a few. All different and great! She won awards for two of them so obviously your opinion is in the minority. Try visiting a board on someone you actually like! BTW, ridiculous post on the actress you said had a "horsey face". All of your negativity is obviously reflections of yourself! Look within Beaaatch!

Bobbie's not wooden, and certainly not robotic. Neither is she the greatest actress we've ever known, but she gives herself in totality to the part and to the character, much in fact to her detriment at times (showgirls for example). Is bobbie a star, no, but an actress in a good sense of the word. Sadly Bobbie never got the right breaks, then again her infrequent nude scenes may have garnered her a name in Hollywood as non-starlet material.
Unfortunately there is a very thin line between one actress who takes her clothes off for the part, and another. Take the English actress Helen Mirren who probably takes her clothes off in every 2nd to 3rd movie she's ever made. Compare this to Bobbie's ratio which is far lower (1 in 20 roles perhaps), and yet bobbie has been coloured by these decisions, if to an extent. Personally I blame the type of roles Bobbie stripped off for, and/or the finished product.
One might almost write an essay on Bobbie's career.

I think I can add some clarification:
First, Mollytft only has negative posts on her profile. So, that means nothing. But, Bobbie worked nonstop for 13 years on mostly popular television shows. I think there were some missed opportunities when she was under contract with Paramount studios for 3+ years. She was loved by the studio, but it just happened there were some studio shakeups during this time. Several actors and shows got stuck in limbo during this time. Unfortunately, although she had some great offers on the table, Bobbie was unable to accept deals from other studios. She understood and was gracious about it.
Bobbie was well respected in the television world and did some very good work. "Murder One" was terrific. But, she also got raves from networks for stints on other shows such as the "X-Files","Dharma & Greg", "Two Guys & a Girl" and many others. She was talented, friendly, professional, and had a very good career. She chose to leave the business to focus on other businesses she started earlier with her husband. Her doing some nudity in independent films had no bearing on how she was seen in the industry. Nobody cared, to be honest. Many great actresses do nude scenes. It also had nothing to do with her refusing to do nude scenes, which I have read. Bobbie simply chose to leave to do other things. From what I hear, she has an award winning hotel in Central America where many stars go to get away from it all. She's a smart and talented lady with a good head for business. I had the pleasure of working in development at Paramount when we had her under contract. Believe me, if she chose to return, the studios would be happy to have her!

Thats really encouraging to hear whatsup. I hope Bobbie does come back for a few more movies or TV parts, and yep, I think most people know about the hotel by now - a one of a kind, just like Bobbie.
            Cheers!
