TCM screened t5b4he film "Tall, Dark and Handsome" this past weekend. It was a little trifle, one of Fox's "B" movies that used contract players. The film works only because of Cesar and I was struck at how strong his acting was and how powerful his presence. He could have been a dramatic actor of the first magnitude. I had the privilege of seeing him at the Academy at a tribute to Mary Pickford a month or so before he passed away. I was struck by the fact that even though he was well into his eighties, he was a charmer of the first magnitude and still tall, dark and handsome.

It always amazed me thru the years how the older Cesar got, the more handsome and charming he became. At the time that movie was made, I don't think there could have been another actor more suited to its title! And he was one of the greatest actorsjust not given enough recognition for his talent! As a devoted fan of his, I have many of his movies and the characters he played were all so different, with different looks and different accentsI think that requires much talent!
Did you know that there was remake done of "Tall, Dark and Handsome" circa 1949? And Cesar was in that one too! Only in this one he played "Pretty Willy" (the Sheldon Leonard role) The movie is called LOVE THAT BRUTE and the Fox Movie Channel is going to run it on Thursday, Dec.3, at 10:30am. Can't wait to see it!!!
