I met Mr. McCarthy in a plumbing store in Van Nuys, CA. I recognized him and said "hello" and that I really loved "Body Snatchers." He was very gracious and friendly. He asked me about myself and I told him I was an aspiring screenwriter. He said that the writing is "where it all starts. None of us in this business could do anything if we didn't have you writers."
Because of this experience, I've always thought very highly of him. He seemed to be a very kind and humble man. I'm sad to hear that he's gone.
