I didn't care much for him in the previous installments (although by Order of the Phoenix he was already getting better) but he did a great job in HBP, I thought.

Agree, with the exception of GoF, he got better with each film. He was brilliant in Half Blood Price.

I thought he was brilliant in HBP - as I did in POA. All along I knew it was the fault of the directors/screenwriters for Dumbledore's behaviour. He made that perfect line between humour, wisdom and caring which was really great to see again.
You can't blame him for the costume - which was still terrible - that's far from his control. I thought he was brilliant.

Agreed. Absolutely loved his performance in HBP. He isn't the only one who has improved in this film though. Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Tom Felton were much better than i imagined they would be!!

He nailed the role in the HBP in my opinion. Before I thought Harris was a better Dumbledore, but even he wasn't quite cheeky enough. This is all of course, nothing to do with the actors, but the director and screenwriter.

Gambon was a pitch perfect Dumbledore.

I'm not really a Harry Potter fan, but I agree with you that Gambon was excellent in HBP. He gave the Dumbledore character a whole new dimension. I also loved Alan Rickman e Jim Broadbent. All the older actors are great.

Yeah, he was terrible in POA and GOF, so I was scared he was gonna ruin HBP, but to my surprise and utter delight, he pulled it off brilliantly.

POA Dumbledore was arguably the most loyal-to-the-books portrayal of the character: eccentric, wise and slightly mysterious.
GOF Dumbledore obviously diverted from the book's portrayal the most. But I still liked it, it showed a grumpy and stressed side to Dumbledore which made him more human. OOTP was kind of similar but also showed the badass side to Dumbledore.
HBP was easily Gambon's best performance in the series.
On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero.

If you thought that was good you should see him in DH part 2, perfection
