Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Claire Bloom

    Camargue — 16 years ago(February 21, 2010 06:18 AM)

Clair Bloom is one of those rare people who could merely read the phone book and draw an audience.
In particular, she was marvelous as Marina Gregg in the 1992 Agatha Christie production "The Mirror Crack'd." Bloom exhibited haughtiness with pathos and desperation with pride; she provided a wonderful rendition of that character!
Then, Bloom treated us to a cold and distant mother to Martin Clunes in an episode of "Doc Martin." John Woodvine was cast as Christopher Ellingham (Doc Martin's father) opposite Bloom's portrayal of Margaret Ellingham. Woodvine played a real stinker as the father, but she (and her character) more than matched him! Clair Bloom is just a fine, fine actress!
