I just found this message board so this is a bit overdue but last August I got to see Thomas F. Wilson do stand up in Chicago..while he was hilarious and easily pokes1c84 fun at himself, I was a bit disappointed after meeting him. I DO know he works very hard and is under a lot of pressure but anyway.
My boyfriend and I were waiting in line after the show to meet him and the guy in front of me asked for 2 autographs, one for him and one for his friend. Thomas replied "I know you're just going to sell these online but I'll do it anyway" in a kind of rude way. Then when another man, who was clearly a HUGE fan, said that the Back to the Future movies were on HBO that day Thomas just kind of nodded his head and was like "Yeah, cool." We were last in line and when it was my turn, my camera wasn't working for a second and Thomas said that we needed to "hurry this up". I know he had a second show to do but still, I felt a little bit upset.
I recently met Johnny Depp who is obviously a much bigger star and he was so much nicer. He took pictures in the RAIN, after MIDNIGHT, after working on his movie set for 12 hours and he stayed til everyone got a picture or a handshake. LIke I said, I know he's a busy guy and I still have a lot of respect for him but it's always a little unsettling to meet someone you admire and have them act in that manner..Anyway, I have a picture from the experience posted here if anyone is interested:

I'm sure it must feel bad to be let down when meeting a celebrity that might not seem too friendly. But like you said, he was probably under a lot of stress at the time and was probably not in a good mood. I still think it was nice of him to sign an autograph and have a picture taken despite that, so I think he was trying his best to be nice. I've heard of people who have met him and have said that he's one of the nicest celebrities they've met. As far as Back to the Future is concerned, I think he is probably tired of hearing about it so much, so that is probably why he reacted in such a way. I'd still like to meet him some day, though. Nice picture, too.

yeah i'm sure the online bit was a joke and if someone told me back to the future was on tv i would probably have the same response, it's a very pop16d0ular show and is on all the time it's like saying hey i saw scrubs on tv today or wow i can't beleive it, friends is on again.

just saw the pics you have of Depp. He is soooo gorgeous!!! That's too bad Thomas F Wilson wasn't nicer when you met. I had a similar experience with Turk from Scrubs. He wasn't nice at all when asked for his autograph. I kept it for a while but later tossed it out.

I had one of Emo Philips but eventually put it down the paper shredder.
The majority opinion is that he's "soooo nice".. but that wasn't my experience. I kept it a while, and just decided I didn't want it around anymore. I didn't associate it with anything uplifting or nice. -

I asked Tom after his Comedy show and he wouldn't do it. Wasn't stalking. Paid good money for his show and he had no personality for his fans that just sat and watched him. He's just like Biff a jerk
End of line. -

He's about to be in my area on a comedy tour. I was listening to an interview the other day and his co-touring comedy was talking about what a great guy he is. He said that TFW has a business card that has the usual BTTF questions/answers to all the questions on the back of it.

ya, I've heard that Tom is a SUPER nice guy, but even so, everyone cant be nice all the time. I try, but when I'm under stress or super hurried I can be brusque myself.
You probably just caught him on a bad night.
And Johnny Depp is a nice guy?? Wow, I would have thought it was the opposite - that's really good to hear, as I had the opposite view of him. He has said some unfortunate things about our country (America) in the press, and I had a bad impression of him from it.
Thanks to you, I will enjoy his movies much more now.
Hope you have a great day! -

I don't know if it's
always
the case but in my personal experience, I've found that the bigger the celebrity is, the nicer they are.
I think that's part of the reason they maintain their popularity. They can handle the fame without getting snippy with people, or condescending toward people, and they treat all their fans equally. They have patience, they are genuine and kind.
It's a good thing Wilson isn't more famous than he is, because judging from your story, he obviously wouldn't be very happy. -

that could also mean the bigger the celebrity the less t5b4hey have to work. look at toms schedule. ive yet to meet a person that did stand up that didnt hate it but did it because they had to. Its hard work. It is really hard if you have to do it a few times a night dont judge till you walk in a mile in someone elses shoes

Stand up is extremely stressful. It's little wonder those that really make it in film stop giggin' if they can. I did it for awhile in the 90's. Never had a bad on stage experience, but back stage, and on the road, yes.

That song on youtube that he did was funny !.Thanks for posting the link.
About the OP's situation, i guess it depends on the person.I have spoke to afew actors who aren't very well known, and they are very nice, down to earth people who are willing to chat, whereas i know some actors who are more famous would pay their fans little, or no attention at all, probably because the fame has gone to their head. However, there will be some really famous actors who are are kind to their fans too.As others have said, it could depend on whether they are having a good or bad day.
I have never been famous, but i feel that if i was, i would pay the fans attention, and always be kind to them, but then i haven't been in that situation.I would even still post on here like i do now and chat to fans.
I have done some acting before, only in local places mind you on stage, never on tv,so i do know how tiring it can be sometimes, but it's enjoyable too.
