I love this woman, she just gives effortless performances. You just look at crack whores that they call actress today and they just don't have it. Which really is sad.
    Love you Gena

Yes I totally agree with you. I think the older generation of actresses are the best! Now do so many actors and actresses need advertence and do publicstunts. Soo stupid! I hate that. Gena Rowlands is just normal and great!

Very well put, though I will say that Jennifer Connelly and Parker Posey have the warmth that a lot of current actresses lack. Still, give me a Gena Rowlands or an Ellen Burstyn over the current crop any day.

There are some really good actress out today, love Parker, but for the more part you have the Jessica Simpsons' and Lindsay Lohans'. Not everyone likes these actor but for some reason Hollywood thinks that we do. Give me Gena, Ellen, Streep, Weaver and Shirley MacLaine any day.

Sadly there will never be another Gena Rowlands (or another Ellen Burstyn or Liv Ullmann for that matter), but there are still some marvellous actresses out there who make going to the movies a treat for me. Some of my contemporary favourites:
              Juliette Binoche
              Isabelle Huppert
              Jennifer Jason Leigh
              Emma Thompson
              Laura Dern
              Julie Christie
              Charlotte Rampling
              Miranda Richardson
              Helen Mirren
              Isabelle Adjani

I agree, Sugarsnap ! Gena Rowlands is really special !
I love all those on your favourites list. Charlotte Rampling is a personal favourite rivalling Gena as my number 1, and I would also add:
                Laura Linney
                Audrey Tautou
                Hillary Swank
                Charlize Theron
Maybe some "up and comers' like Ellen Page , Abigail Breslin and Dakota Fanning might carry the flag in the future ( If they can survive their youth in the limelight !)

I like most of these actresses as well.
I think if you were making a list of top ten current actresses today who are always doing interesting work, than Juliette Binoche should always make the cut. I've loved her ever since I've seen her in Bleu, so it's nice to see she was first on your list.
However, there's one actress or two others that I've also got to give her due credit - Judy Davis. Her acting skills & versatility are amazing and she's always doing interesting projects. She probably merits a place above one or two of the other actresses on this list. Catherine Keener could also merit a place because she always seems to imbue life into many different characters, even though she tends to be in somewhat more mainstream films. As far as a true character actress, I'm always impressed with the presence of Patricia Clarkson Sorry, guess I didn't mean to write so much or list more than one or two more names, so for right now I'll also have to say that I'd also add Tilda Swinton to the list of contemporary greats.

Yes, throw in Jane Fonda and Glenda Jackson in the mix and that's an envious mix of talent, chops and beauty. How great were those years of wonderful acting and powerful movies of the 60s and 70sMakes me nostalgic thinking how low we've sunk in the filmmaking industry.
