I don't know all of Randy's problems. I have read some articles when it all first went down, and it seems weird to say the least.
But he was so good in both comedy and drama. He made good movies great and bad movies at least fun.
I hope he solves his issues somehow, and they give him a comeback. Maybe wishful thinking on my part.

On family guys, season 12 ep 18, they featured a drunken homeless Randy quaid, where Peter ends up wanting to kill him just for the sake of him. I find this in bad taste.
I like Family Guy, although it's not as fun as it was, and to be far behind the fresher American Dad. It has some good gags, funny plots and stewie is a brilliant character. Picking on Randy was not funny though. He is a person who needs serious mental health, not ridicule from a show watched in the millions.
If they had to put him in, they should have in a nostalgic way, how he was, and how he is universally remembered for the fun he created in any film he featured in.
I don't see what they expected to achieve by this skit, and on the whole shows family guy are losing ideas and now picking on the people who can't or won't protect themselves, or at least people sound of mind who won't make an unexpected or bad reaction to it. I'm sure it's not what he needs to see at this time, and just mean play from Seth MacFarlane.

Seth McFarland is an equal opportunity offender. From Margot Kidder to Martha Stewart to Randy Quaid, he doesn't care. I used to like Family Guy a lot, but it has gone downhill, and besides, I'm just SO SICK AND TIRED of hearing McFarland sing show tunes.
But I digress. Randy Quaidmy God..he is such a talented man. I love his movies, but in the last 10 years, something has definitely gone wrong. First it was the issue with his house in CAsquatting I thinkthen fleeing to Canada with his wife and releasing some1354 very weird short videos.
He is 65, I think. It would be unusual for him to develop mental illness in his 50's. Maybe it's drugs? I just don't know, but the acting world has lost a great talent. I agree with the OP; I really hope he cleans up his act, and comes back to us
