He didn't like working with kids, because they need patience, and he was a bit of a hard drinking bad boy back in the day.

            Actually, they showed pictures on
            Oprah
with him telling jokes and interacting with some of the kids off the set.
So, I don't think he detested them. And the girl who played Liezel said she had a big time crush on him while they worked together.
So, hardly an ogre with kids.
He likes to put on airs but I think he's probably a pretty darn good guy.

Working with kids can be difficult. Maybe that's all he meant, that the kids often made things difficult on the set, since kids are often very hyper, can get easily distracted and may not always follow directions (they can be mischievous). They can also be a lot of fun to be around and I've had some very good experiences working with kids on a set. You do require patience when working with kids and not everybody can have that patience all the time, and I think that is all Plummer meant. I'm sure he had a great time with the children

That's just it though. She wasn't a kid, she was 21 years old. She was old enough to go drinking with him after work.
I agree with ijrichter, Plummer was probably referring to hi2000s professionalism: he's an actor who's used to working with grown ups.

You mean "The Sound of Mucus", as he called it? :))
Well, yes, as others have said, working with children can be very trying, especially if you're not into the "daddy"/"mommy" routine that many adults adopt when around any kids (not their own).
But yes, I doubt he's an "ogre". 🙂

Well he has a daughter (who is quite famous), so I'm sure he can't hate them all.

Being that he has a daughter, I don't think he hates kids.
But, some people do hate kids, because kids make them feel insecure, when they realize they don't have the "all universal parenting instinct" that every adult is unfortunately expected to have. It's a bunch of pressure that isn't fair. Not every adult is meant to be a parent not every adult has it in them to "love" children. But, unfortunately, when one is working with kids or around kids, they are always expected to be parental. I can certainly understand why, but I can also understand if that made Christopher Plummer uncomfortable.
Please excuse typos/funny wording; I use speech-recognition that doesn't always recognize!
