Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Michael Paré

    TheBoz — 12 years ago(December 29, 2013 12:01 AM)

I remember seeing EATC at the theatre. And after that SOF and TPE. What happned to his career. MP proved he could act. How do people who start off with such a bang, end up on in a SY-FY remake of their own movie playing another part?
Bad Management? The end of the anti-hero craze? The guy is only a year older then me and he looks good, strong an healthy. What was all the ho-hum stuff he had to take to pay the bills. I dont get it. Michael Pare joins the pantheon of actors who were dumped after their "type" of character was no longer needed. Oh had they done the same with Tom Cruise I would be lot happier.
I don't know him personally but he seems like he would be very likeable to work with and would be a hell of actor in serious billion dollar films rather then the Poverty Row type movies that our beloved Bela Lugosi had to resort to to pay his bills.
He should at least have his own TV series. I easily see him as Fox Mulder as opposed to David Duchovny, though I love them both.
Anybody in the film industry have a educational explanation other then their accents were too New York, or bad Managment or drug use. Its like they finish the last well known film and then the studios more or less say F.O.
Cheers to Michael Pare. Wish I had a big brother like him growing up.

Based on a podcast I listened to, Pare had a hard time working with Walter Hill. The guy just told him "Just be a star. Just be a big big star". Streets was his first major Hollywood film and at barely 25 or 26, he lacked the experience (or so he says. Tom Cody is still my favorite character) to work with such a big director.

I'm glad it's not just me; Cody is easily my favourite, although there's such a similar presence in his portrayal of Eddie Wilson that I gravitate toward both. I grew up with these movies covertly implanted in my childhood - as an adult now I find myself thinking of him/them (singing the songs especially) often, beyond fond for his authenticism. Beyond just cult classics for me, Michael is firmly planted in my mind and heart as someone solid, stable and consistent. So likeable it's painful he isn't in more. I feel that like Eddie, Michael was ahead of his time with these roles; Streets of Fire especially could fit (and lead) easily well today within the comic-book genre that exists. Watching a few personal recent interviews (2013) yet again shows that he has (still) both the presence, talent and humility of which true stars are made. 26 or 106 - I will always be a major fan. Like Eddie (again) perhaps it's a matter of him needing to forget what the critics say, and just stepping up to play the best he can play.
