His imdb biography says he supports Sheffield United, this is wrong and will probably annoy him. He actually supports Sheffield Wednesday. Just putting the record straight.

In one of his documentarys he said he supports whichever team is doing better at the time!! Which would mean right now, he supports United.
I'm not sure if he was joking or not, but inside the cover of one of his books is a picture of a compass with the Shef Utd badge on it. -

I think it is most likely that he isn't really interested in football that much - but just likes to see Sheffield teams do well. Hes such a nice bloke that he probably doesn't want to upset anyone, so he says he supports both.

He supports sheffield as a footballing city, and doesn't take sides
I remember a few years back (2001 actually) he came and did the "blades superdraw" at half time at brammall lane (sheffield uniteds ground)I remember i was 13 at the time and all i could say is i thought i he looked smaller in person
Anyway, this man is a legend -

I think he is more a blade than an owl. In 'Full Circle' he drives a little van in Malaysia I think - which is covered in Sheffield United stickers and banners.
He also mentioned the Blades (Sheffield Utd) in his around the world in 20 years special that was on recently
I CAN'T BELIEVE I ALMOST FORGOT TO WRITE THIS - When I met him at a book signing in Canterbury in 1999 I told him I was a Sheffield Unied supporter too and he asked me if I thought they would beat Dagenham and Redbridge in the cup. -

Nope. He is in fact a childhood supporter of Sheffield United who occasionally supports Wednesday because he's lived in London for a long time and wants the 5b4Sheffield teams to do well against team from other towns/cities. So, his biography is correct.

"Well, Ive lived in London for 35 years and I do follow the fortunes of both. Its more a token of feelings for the city where I grew up. Sheffield people will say to me: Youll say up the Blades then youll say youre a Wednesday fan, whats going on? United were the club I supported when I was growing up, mainly because their ground was the nearest to our house. I used to see Wednesday supporters as a different type of person, just deeply disturbed. But then I was always excited when either club was involved in a big game and Wednesday tended to be involved in bigger games. When I first came to London, it was 1966 and Wednesday were in the Cup final, so I couldnt say I wasnt interested because they were from my city. Eric Idle was a big Chelsea fan and I used to go there to see either Sheffield team play. I found myself being sucked in as a sort of associate Wednesday fan, though I would have been disemboweled in Sheffield if theyd known that."
