Jordan's defense of Polanski is inexcusable. I mean that quite literally. There is NO EXCUSE for child rape and there is no justification for supporting the release of this monster. The very fact that this pedophile has escaped paying for his crimes for so long only makes Jordan's support of him that much worse.
From this day forward this scumbag gets none of my money. His films can rot in the can for all I care. -

I thought the guy was a humanitarian and a small d democrat. But apparently he thinks talented directors are above the law.

You are absolutely correct alansmithee04.
Jordan, in signing this excuse for a petition, is condoning the actions of that PAEDOPHILE Polanski.
So Mr Jordan, drugging, sodomising, and raping a 13 YEAR OLD GIRL is fine in your books is it?!
SHAME ON YOU, and ALL the other arty-farty morons that signed it along with you.

The message of the letter is very much in opposition to the way the arrest was carried out, something that a lot of people seem to miss.
Also, Polanski is not a pedophile. People who call him one immediately make their comments null and void, because one can tell that they don't know what they're talking about, that they're not educated about the case, nor do they, it seems, even have a firm grasp on the English language. -

His arrest follows an American arrest warrant dating from 1978 against the filmmaker, in a case of morals.
Filmmakers in France, in Europe, in the United States and around the world are dismayed by this decision. It seems inadmissible to them that an international cultural event, paying homage to one of the greatest contemporary filmmakers, is used by the police to apprehend him.
By their extraterritorial nature, film festivals the world over have always permitted works to be shown and for filmmakers to present them freely and safely, even when certain States opposed this.
The arrest of Roman Polanski in a neutral country, where he assumed he could travel without hindrance, undermines this tradition: it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects.
Roman Polanski is a French citizen, a renown and international artist now facing extradition. This extradition, if it takes place, will be heavy in consequences and will take away his freedom.
Filmmakers, actors, producers and technicians - everyone involved in international filmmaking - want him to know that he has their support and friendship.
On September 16th, 2009, Mr. Charles Rivkin, the US Ambassador to France, received French artists and intellectuals at the embassy. He presented to them the new Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at the embassy, Ms Judith Baroody. In perfect French she lauded the Franco-American friendship and recommended the development of cultural relations between our two countries.
If only in the name of this friendship between our two countries, we demand the immediate release of Roman Polanski.
The whole "neutral" grounds reason is rendered meaningless when one reads the entire petition. If this was some unknown, someone part of the hoi polloi, a non-"artist", a +1 guest to this festival whose name was on Interpol then people wouldn't want his release. There would be no "justice" for him.
it opens the way for actions of which no-one can know the effects.
Where did they come up with this? The English language is twisted and turned in order to make any "artist" look innocent. Their excuse of being on neutral grounds is again meaningless since the extreme fanboyism that immediately comes after is such hot air.
Also, Polanski is not a pedophile. People who call him one immediately make their comments null and void, because one can tell that they don't know what they're talking about, that they're not educated about the case, nor do they, it seems, even have a firm grasp on the English language.- _ -

As for Neil - hopefully you put as much thought into
Byzantium
as you did when you signed your name to this petition due to the "unfair" arrest of a fellow film maker.
