I had just moved back to Los Angeles after graduating from UC Berkeley, and my roommate at the time was an actor who knew Brion. So he told me he was going to a friend's funeral. I asked him who it was, and when he told me, I insisted on going too. I was struck dumb because I had known Brion from his roles in Blade Runner, Enemy Mine, and The Fifth Element. I couldn't believe how many famous actors I saw at his memorial service. Tim Robbins was there with his wife Susan Sarandon, Bruce Willis was there with Demi Moore, I saw Mark Hamill on the other side of the room, Dean Stockwell, Milla Jov5b4ovich was sitting next to Bruce, Greta Scacchi, Harrison Ford was there with his wife, Lou Gossett was there, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos, Fred Ward, Dennis Quaid was there with Meg Ryan, Joanna Cassidy, Rutger Hauer, Whoopi Goldberg, Kurt Russell, Sylvester Stallone, Peter Boyle, Gary Oldman, Gina Gershon, Brian-Doyle Murray, Ian Holm, Vincent D'Onofrio (whom I actually had met before and I gave a dirty look to because of the way he treated a director friend of mine an his wife when he was in their movie with Gregory Hines), Chris Elliot, Jim Gammon, Nick Nolte, Arnold Shwarzenegger, Eddie Murphy, Chris Tucker, Darryl Hannah, Mathieu Kassovitz, Bernie Casey, Tiny Lister, Sidney Pollack was there with his brother Bernie, Larry Fishburne, Jim Belushi, Jane Kaczmarek was there with her husband Brad Whitford, Melanie Griffith was there with her husband Antonio Banderas, Jack Nicholson was hanging out in the back of the room with sunglasses on, I think he was crying, Angelica Huston was there standing next to him with her arm around him hugging him. I was just agog at how many faces I recognized. There were a lot of people there who remembered working with Brion. Tim Thomerson was there sitting up in the first row, he was also wearing sunglasses, he also looked like he'd been crying.
My roommate and I sat down next to Sean Young. There were a lot of faces I recognized but couldn't put a name to. The only reason I got into that memor1c84ial service at all was because I was with my roommate who had been on the admission list and was allowed to bring a guest. It was so weird because with that many industry insiders in the room, the atmosphere was markedly different. There were no photographers or papparazzi outside, it was like they didn't know about it at all. I'll never forget that memorial service.

I know he was such a memorable actor in everything he did, he was easy to identify to people cos he had done so much. Love the stuff he did and it is a shame he had died so soon!

I had no idea he had passed away eitherI thought he just retired from acting. Sad to hear about his passing because he was a great character actor. He pops up in so much stuff. I was just watching something with him and just decided to pop in here to see how much work he did. I knew it would be a lot but wow, he just so much.

I just found out right now. I watched Tango & Cash for the first time in years and saw it when I clicked on his bio. I had absolutely no idea he was dead.

The magazine Psychotronic ran an obit piece on Brion James when he died, so I knew about his unfortunate untimely end since it occured.

wow, old thread, but I just found out now in 2013. I hadnt seen him for a while but he always popped in and out so I never considered him being gone. I found out while reading an interview with him in the new Fangoria, about Crimewave. My favourite was the horror show, released here in Australia strangely as House 3. Ill miss seeing you buddy, RIP.

I was just watching Blade Runner today and checked IMDB to see what the actors had been doing recently. Like so many others here I was shocked to see that Brion had passed away. RIP

I watched him first in Crimewave a16d0nd Bladerunner. He stuck in my head from then on. But I was revisiting those films just now and I too didn't know he'd died. RIP Mr James.
