Peter Hyams is a underrated director. He has done some very good films, like Operation Outland, 2010, Timecop, and End of Days. I want to call him "Stanley Kubrick light". When will he do some big blockbuster films again?
I don't think he can handle drama. It must be science fiction or horror.
But what about a thriller?
A miner in a diamond mine in South Africa, an impressive miner, a young man. That's an interesting character. We can add that he has a very large family in where the relationships are difficult to understand. Every time the young miner make a progress, he is rewarded. And he can easily understand other people's thoughts and their problems. But he doesn't really understand how to "read between the lines" when people speak to him.
Who can play that character?
Brad Renfro of course. But Jonathan Taylor Thomas should have a smaller part.
