Was it true that Bob Hope was obsessed with publicity?
I think it was a Hollywood reporter (correct me if I'm wrong!!) who said that -
Bob Hope is so obsessed with publicity that he'd go to the opening of a gas station at Annaheim if he knew in advance that a couple of news photographers would be there.

Apparently Marlon Brando said that. Bob took it with grace and said that you had to take into consideration Brando's state of mind at the time he said that. Brando also said that Hope was "an applause junkie, who has an ever decreasing estimation of himself".
Hope thought the reverse was true.
