Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Jennie Garth

I applaud Jennie Garth on Ellen today. When asked about the wierdness she had with Shannen Doherty. She said that Shannen was a very strong independent woman just like her, and that's probably why there was drama on the old set. She went on to say that it was all good between them and it was nice having a familiar face on the new set111c of the new 90210. Looks like they both have moved on. Way to go to both of them.

I think the whole fued over the years has been blown way out of proportion when you look at it.
First off I don't think any group of young actors has ever gone through the type of media circus that the "90210" kids had to go through. I think Jennie mentioned in one of her biographies that it got to the point where it forced her to live like a hermit for awhile. I'm sure a number of the other cast members including Shannen may have experienced similar issues with their suddent fame. This rapid ascention from being young actors in Hollywood to superstars seemingly overnight no doubt would've added some tension to the mix right off the bat on the set.
Second, both Jennie and Shannen were jockeying for position as to who was going to be the lead female actress on the show. At the start of the show Shannen was sort of viewed as the star of the show due to having more acting experience than the rest of the young cast. The thing was Jennie Garth had a great deal of acting ability that really caused the writers of the show to in time write better material for her than Shannen. Jennie had that great storyline arc with her alcoholic mother, she had that one episode where she broke down and told the story about that guy who raped hershe had a lot of interesting storylines whereas the storylines Shannen recieved never seemed to be on par with the storylines Jennie Garth recieved.
Again I think Jennie has mentioned over the years that as the show got more popular she and Shannen just began to fight over every little stupid thing on the set whether it was wardrobe or the scripts or whatever and it got really petty. But I believe she also said at times there would be "good days" and then it would go off again into madness.
Again I think what happened between Shannen and Jennie back in the early 90s was just a case of two young women on a very popular show jockeying for position on a show that they both knew just due to its popularity was crucial to their careers. Now almost twenty years later, a lot of those issues that they used to fight over don't have the same significance, add to that a good dose of maturity on both of their parts and it shouldn't be a surprise to b68anyone that they can at the very least stand working with each other if not more.

I completely agree with what you said. However I do think Shannen is a little more to blame then Jennie. She always had a little bit bigger ego and this caused friction between the two of them. Alot of people have acknoweledged this.

Whatever. More people have said that Jennie was a bitch and hard to work with. She's stuck up.
