Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — James Garner

One of my fathers favorite actors has passed today. I remember as a kid watching "Rockford Files" every week with him. When I got my license, I was even stupid enough to try the reverse 180 turn that he always did with that Firebird(I know it was a stuntman, it was still cool).
This is a sad morning, already. Rest in peace, Jim.

R.I.P Mr. Garner. One of the last great, classic actors. Down to earth, funny, never took any crap from anybody and classy. Enjoy Heaven..

Jim actually did those 180'she was a professional grade driver as well as being one of the best actors America ever produced.

In fact, he invented that driving stunt, and was the first ever to start out in reverse and wind up moving forward without ever stopping. That maneuver is now known in professional stunt driver circles as 'a Rockford'.
