Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Denholm Elliott

    carbru2002 — 19 years ago(April 09, 2007 12:27 AM)

I have heard Denholm Elliott made a British comedy movie with a pig, something to do with a local council and the pig had to be hidden. I have heard Maggie Smith was in it, also Pete Postlethwaite, but can find no trace. Anyone have any ideas on a name? May have been filmed in Ilkley in Yorkshire, UK

The name of the movie is called "A Private Function".
      I hope this helps.

Can't remember the name, but yer man who played Uncle Vernon in the Harry Potter movies was also in it. It was set during the years of rationing if I'm not mistaken

This was a great movie, very funny. They steal the pig that is going to be used for a big feast and they are trying to keep it alive in their house and blackmail their way into the upper crust of the town. The old lady in the house is convinced they are trying to put her in a nursing home by making people think she is crazy, so she goes around saying "No pig, there's no pig!" It's a very gentle and dry humor mostly, but with some quirky little hints at weirdness here and there. Man, I forgot this one, need to get it on dvd!
