Is there another director or actor that finished a career on such a high note. Greatest Show on Earth is great. Ten Commandments is a much watch every Easter.
I can only think of John Wayne in his final film, The Shootist. Also a great film to end a career.

He did go out in an amazing way. My 2 favorite films of his are Greatest Show on Earth and The Ten Commandments. Most Hollywood directors don't get to do that.

I recommend that all fans check out Reap the Wild Wind- it's QUITE a film- great performances and surprisingly engaging effects, and oh that glorious technicolour

Actually his last
three
were phenomeonally successful films. SAMSON AND DELILAH (1949) was actually the highest-grossing film of all the 1940's, THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH (1952) won the Best Picture Oscar and was another monster smash as was THE TEN COMMANDMENTS (1955) which as you note is one of the most famous and still most watched films of all pre-1960 motion pictures.
