I was browsing through IMDb's mini-biography of Capra by Jon C. Hopwood and noticed that he calls "It's A Wonderful Life" a United Artists release. The film was, in fact, a Samuel Goldwyn Production and an RKO Radio release.

It was made by Libety Films, Carpa's own company. A you sure the Sam Goldwyn you are referring to is not the film/video company of the 1980s/'90s. They might have re-released it on home video after the copyright issues were ironed out.
