I stayed in a motel several weeks ago because of the bad weather (the water in the pipes leading to my apartment were broken) when I happened to catch an interview of Dean Cain on Fox on the motel lobby television. He was discussing the economy and was saying that some people would rather live on welfare than find work. That statement made my blood boil since there are not enough jobs for everyone in this country. I am well-educated and twice in my life I have had to seek public assistance. Thankfully it was there for me at the time. I do not know what those folks whose benefits ended on Dec. 28th last year are going to do. I liked Dean Cain until this interview and now I do not care much for him. After his initial statement he went on to say that he would so anything to make a living. The problem is that if you apply for most of those low-wage jobs is that they will say you are "overqualified". The interview bothered me so much that I had to leave the breakfast area of the motel.

Actually, there are some people who do just that. We know it's wrong but it's the truth.
As for folks that are out of work with no more benefits, they are most likely calling churches and other organizations asking for help. I work in a church tha has an assistance program and I get calls around the holidays for help. The calls kind of trickle in throughout the year, but there are more around the holidays. -

What Dean said was about "some" people, not everyone. I'm sure a lot of people on assistance programs really need it but Dean is definitely right in saying there is a portion of the population using the government rather than working on their own. The truth is that If you are working and pay taxes it's really you who are payin5b4g for that portion of the population to take advantage of the system as the government doesn't make money, it only collects money from its citizens and redistributes it.

As a public school teacher for over 30 years I've noticed more students who grow up thinking that government assistance is the norm; they have breakfast and lunch for free, use the classroom to charge their devices, and go to the nurse on a daily basis so much so that now their visits must be recorded by the classroom teacher who now must call a guard to take them to the nurse. They are users and have a sense of entitlement. They and their parents seem little interested in education and more interested in what the public schools can do for them. Babysit, feed, nurse, and counsel. There now beyond the school psychologist and counselors, case managers, transition counselors, bullying counselors, a child study team. WTF does this have to do with education! That's where my tax dollars and salary are going. Oh and by the way they have the most up to date phones etcthe only think they don't have is motivation.
I'm frequently asked for pens and pencils, tissues and hand cleaner. It never occurs to them to buy or bring their own.
