Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Richard Beymer

    cheeseygoodness — 21 years ago(July 26, 2004 09:34 AM)

In the newest Natalie Wood biography it said that Richard Beymer was going to get the role of i think Buzz in "Rebel Without A Cause", but because he was much taller than James Dean and the other gang members he didn't get it. But in the Planatarium scene when the students are exiting there is a boy who starts to look up and looks just like Richard, does anyone know if it's him?

I dont have any idea, i've never heard about that, and I've read 2 bio's bout Dean and 1 about Wood, but it wouldn't be hard to be taller than James Dean.
I wish I knew more about Richard Beymer, I think he's so awesome, and if anyone knows anything about him, tell methat would be cool. So sorry I can't help you though.

Beymer was forced by the studio to audition for Sal Mineo's role as Plato. Richard knew it was not good casting but had to do it. He was badly treated by Dean and Natalie and some others which later on did not help their relationship in WSS.
Ironically as well is that at one point the Jerome Robbins had wanted James Dean to play Tony in the stage version, but he had died before they could seal the deal. I know Dean was a very good dancer. Not sure about his singing though.
