Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Roscoe Arbuckle

    Firedragon524 — 20 years ago(August 21, 2005 04:29 PM)

It was written in his contract that his weight remain above 250 pounds and that we would be given a healthy yearly bonus if he exceeded that by 50 to 100 pounds. During his career he kept it well over 300.
    Taken from his biography section:

Could a studio even get away with something like this today?
COME NOT BETWEEN THE DRAGON AND HIS WRATH

If You have a certain image as a star, You need to keep it in most cases. Chris Farley, John Goodman or John Candy would have alienated large portions of their fans, if theyd slim down. Even Oprah had a hard time when she became thin.

I've heard that when James Gandolfini had lost all that weight around the time that he made The Mexican HBO made him put it back on because they didn't think audiences would like a thin Tony Soprano. So this still happens.
