On the front page of this website today (8/8/06) is a link to the following article:
Hollywood's Original Bad Boy, Fatty Arbuckle from Independent.co.uk
http://enjoyment.independent.co.uk/film/features/article1214709.ece
While this article acknowledges the excellent books, The Day the Laughter Stopped, by David Yallop, and Frame-Up! The Untold Story of Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, both based on fact and solid research, the article instead opts to ignore those and repeat rumor and urban legend, using Kenneth Anger's wretched Hollywood Babylon as gospel.
This article is full of errors and is a terrible shame, especially when the truth is so easily obtained. This newspaper gives journalism a bad name. -

What people don't understand about the Arbuckle case is that the damage that can be done even though he was cleared of the crime. Just cry rape and a man is guilty just like that.
A "friend" accused me of stealing $50. I attempted to clear my name by emptying my pockets, my wallet and allowing her to search my car. She refused all three offers, but stuck to her story that1c84 I [and her own son] are the only two that could have taken it. The idea that she could have misplaced it, lost it or miscounted it wasn't an option. Proof doesn't matter.
You have to be able to hit back harder. So what did I do? I accused her of staging the whole thing and accused her of not having the money in the first place. I called her out for not searching the car because she knew it wouldn't be found because I didn't have it. She hasn't responded to my accusations. Don't let anyone spread a lie about you! Hit them back with everything you have.
It's still way too easy to damage someone's name today just as it was in Arbuckle's time. Don't ever let anyone get away with it.
