What an ugly person

So, all of you humble people here have devoted at least part of your lives to her denigration. Such is the way of your world. And how does this make you any better than she?

Hmm..OPwell Hilary Clinton isn't attractive (and never has been,IMHO) but Nancy Pelosi is attractive and always has been (again,IMHO.).
But then when has a woman's attractiveness to you been an indicator of anything other than your tastes?
And,apparently,your political leanings?
Emma Thompson is simply a plain woman that is also a talented actress,IMHO.
She was "cute" when she was younger;now she's more of a "handsome woman."
Suspension of disbelief: Yes. Suspension of logical thought? I'll pass. -

Thanks for your insightful comments. It seems there aren't many of them anymore on here now that Emma has committed the Cardinal Sin of voicing her opinion about Audrey Hepburn.
Also, in reference to her looks, I really don't understand why people don't think she's particularly attractive. I think she is.
I think she's the saddest girl ever to hold a martini. -

"Hideous Emma Thompson"are you high?
She studied and went to Cambridge, earned her degree in English literature, and still found time to act in the Cambridge Footlights Revue, and one thing led to another. She also took off a semester before finally graduating to take care of her father, who suffered a stroke in 1979.
She is HARDLY the first offspring to follow in his/her parents' footstepsthat happens in just about every profession. I would agree with you in the case of psycho W Bushhe never earned a thing in his lifea failed business man, a failed baseball team, a completely failed election for which he needed his brother in Florida, his cousin at FOX News who called Florida for him (even though he lost it), and an attorney whose uncle is the one of the most extreme right-wing attorneys on the Supreme CourtAnthony Scaliato go to "bat" for him and argue the "case" in Bush v. Gore. Hopefully you're upset with that disastrous piece of nepotism. But to castigate Emma Thompson and say that her career was "handed to her" is ridiculous. Her father died long before she hit any modicum of fame at all. And her mother was hardly pushing her into anything she didn't want to do. -

I agree with you on W, I loathe the man. But I also believe Emma Thompson wouldn't have had a career if not for her famous parents. She certainly didn't get it on looks, talent or charisma. She has none of those. Hence her disgusting remarks about Audrey Hepburn.
Audrey will be remembered long after Thompson has been forgotten. Plain and simple. -

You couldn't be further from the truth. She has far, far surpassed the success of her parents and her sister (who also "followed in her parents' footsteps"). Now, you're just being stupid to say that she didn't get this far on talent or charisma (I won't comment on her looksI think she's beautifulbut that is quite subjective.). She's EXTREMELY talented and CHARMINGhave you ever seen her on a talk show? She always has everyone laughing, whether it's on Leno, Le111ctterman, DeGeneres, Ferguson, or morning news/entertainment shows. You just must not like her much for whatever reasonto say that she has no talent (the ONLY person to have won top Oscars for both acting AND writing) is ridiculous and absolutely not based on any fact.
She actually was interviewed this week in Chicago, and the interview was published in the Chicago Tribune today. I am glad that she stands by her comments about Audrey Hepburnshe is quite surprised by the backlash, and said that to not like a particular actress/actor's talent/not find them very talented is hardly worth the flogging she received (words to that extent). She said, again, that she knows she's "a saint" (e.g., she's well aware of all her charity workand Thompson has also done a ton of charity workhers just doesn't get recognizedprobably because she wishes NOT to flaunt itshe just does it quietly).she just likes actors with "a bit more bite" (her words, exactly. And I agree with her. Say what you will about A. Hepburnshe really didn't have any "bite" to her persona, or her acting).
Anyway, I adore Emma. She would probably have to commit a capital crime for me to rethink how I feel about herand even given that, it would depend on the crime. -

Hear, hear mmitsos!
I'm a massive Emma fan & didn't take any issue with what she said about Hepburn and I happen to adore Hepburn! I agree she wasn't the world's best actress but I still loved her for her charm & beauty onscreen & I happen to love My Fair Lady. So what that Emma disagrees?
Perhaps she could've stated it a bit more tactfully but half the time I'm discussing something I feel passionate about words come tumbling out of my mouth at such a rapid pace the signals can get messed up a bit & it comes out all wrong.
Anyway, if anyone dared take the time to research Ms. Thompson, you'd know for a fact that she's not a hateful person AT ALL. She happens to be a person I've admired for years mostly due to her intell16d0igence, wit & generous heart. Debating her comments on Hepburn are perfectly fine & welcomed, but when people resort to hate & spite in order to defend their opinions that's where it becomes utterly ridiculous. I think it reflects more on the character of the person who's lashing out than it does the subject they're trying to insult or degrade. And yes, saying she has no talent or charisma is silly. Of course she does! You may not care for it or her and that's fine, but don't resort to these petty slights, they're juvenile. And what does her weight have to do w/ ANYTHING? Please keep the insults at least relevant for Christ sake!
Btw, having just seen her in person last week, Emma looks RADIANT! Beautiful woman, beautiful skin, such a happy countenance & had such a delightful ease with children. She had them all (& all the adults) laughing til they cried! She is truly lovely in every sense of the word.

You are definitely living proof that Ritalin & testosterone should never be taken together. They shoot horses, don't they? Maybe they should just shoot the school system you were "educated" in & start over. It's obviously a huge failure. -

You're a pathetic, idiotic, moronic specimen. I'm very proud of my wonderful education, both here in the US and abroad (the Sorbonne and other European universities), of which you quite seemingly have had none. -

Actually Emma's beautiful, and very talented, and from what I know, a wonderful person.
She's not perfect and I may not agree with everything she saysbut if I decided to hate everyone I didn't agree with on every last topic, I don't think I could like anyone at all.
I am surprised to read her comments about Audrey Hepburnand of course that's where all the negative stuff is coming frombut, I'm not going to cease being a fan of either of them over it.
