then ian mckellen. i mean ian was great and did a great job with the voice and theatricality of the role but in terms of the physical presence i think terrance stamp would have been better

After playing Zod, Terence Stamp would have been too obvious a choice to play Magneto. I don't think he could have played it better than Ian McKellen anyway.

I'm saying he has much more of a menacing screen presence. If you saw the movie with out audio for example i wouldn't detect any malice or strength. Whereas Terrance has a scarier and harsher screen presence which would have made more intimate scenes that much more powerful

I think that is exactly why Terence would have been too obvious a choice. He's already done an almost identical role in the Superman films. Ian McKellen has a wider range as an actor, and because of his extremely well-respected acting career, he also gave Magneto (and the X-Men films in general) a lot of weight that they may not have had with another actor. Much the same way that Patrick Stewart gave Star Trek:TNG a lot of weight.
          I
          would
like to see Terence as a sci-fi villain again, but not necessarily as a super-villain. Perhaps as something more intellectual.

Ian McKellen looked scarrier einough and he did a great job as Magneto. To be onest, Terence Stamp can't replace him, even if he's a very good actor. I agree wit moomoo2525.
