Really?
I like Spike Lee, and some of his older films are Oscar material, but not BlackkKlansman. It was great, but just like Black Panther, it wasn’t an ‘Oscar film’ .
Personally I think Klansman, Beale Street, Bohemian, Panther and Roma were all ridiculous picks for Oscars and stole the places of Boy Erased, Mary Queen of Scots, Tully, The Mule, and The Upside (which also had a black lead, and was a much better film than those nominated), for the simple fact of they were non-white lead movies.
Green Book I understand, that felt like an Oscar movie (even though I didn’t want it to win) but at the moment we’ve surpassed equality and now it’s about black favouritism - somebody here said that the other day and I totally agree.
Richard E Grant deserved best supporting actor
Rachel Weiss deserved supporting actress
Bradley Cooper deserved best actor
A Star is Born or Favourite deserved best picture
The Favourite or Mary Queen of Scots deserved costumes
A Star is born deserved sound mixing
Isle of Dogs or Mary Poppins deserved original score
Incredibles 2 deserved animated film
A Star is born deserved director and didn’t even get nominated so should’ve been The Favourite
The Favourite deserved original screenplay
A Star is born deserved adapted screenplay
The Favourite deserved cinematography
The Favourite deserved editing
The Favourite deserved production design
A quiet place deserved sound editing
Of course all of these were won by films which were about non-white people.
