Anyone else feel that Robert Altman's style is a lot like what would have happened had Tati not rigorously rehearsed and planned every single minute detail out?

Ironically enough, Tati's Mr. Hulot will rise from the grave thanks to the animation of Sylvain Chomet (The Tripletts of Belleville) for a movie in 2009. So yes, he shall become a cartoon character.
Yeah, both Altman and Tati enjoyed playing with sound in interesting ways. I'd love to see NASHVILLE on a huge screen to really soak up the overlapping dialogue.
