not really, he gained a ton of publicity and he still has his Oscar, plus a whole bunch of movies lined up, and Bad Boys 4 is currently dominating the box office. His career is basically unchanged. As a Hollywood producer he is basically immune from his career being derailed unless he commits a felony or something.
The Academy arranged it because they were losing relevancy, they need manufactured controversy.

Will and his wife boycotted The Oscars, publicly. Loudly. The only way that man was going to walk away with his flowers was if he briefly tanked his career, as punishment for being so outspoken against the ceremony for its lack of diversity. To believe that he was incapable of pulling off such an easily staged stunt as slapping a friend and then crying about it is to ignore the very reason he was there; Smith has been nominated for five Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards, and has won four Grammy Awards. He is more than capable of the feat, if the reward was an Oscar.
And it was.
Both Chris and Will were and still are friends. Chris got material for a special and a resurgence in the public sphere, with more positive than negative results. Jada is more than an actress. She is a business woman. She lost nothing of note. Will walked away with a long-overdue Oscar win, cementing his legacy amongst his peers, whose validation matters more than whether or not he is seen well in the public eye. He'll be forgiven where it counts by the masses, eventually, and everyone who was involved likely knows this.
His career is far from over. Why? Because all he did was slap Chris Rock. People have come back from far, far worse. "Take your win and get out," isn't that bad a deal, all things considered. Now he gets his "Redemption Arc", and people will lap it up. If he is ever invited back to the Oscars, it will boost ratings substantially, and the material for the return - likely including Chris - will be a major highlight.
Absolutely no one of import loses out in this clearly staged affair. And if you still think it was a legitimate event, then you are proving to yourself that underestimating Will's acting chops has always been his barrier to entry. He's in a different club now, where the public isn't of any real importance.
If he couldn't make you, the audience, believe he'd do something so out of character, he wouldn't be worthy of that Oscar. That was the whole point… It's not a conspiracy; it's Hollywood.

Of course it was staged. Denzel Washington and Bradley Cooper were both miraculously there "calming" down Smith after the fight. It was ABSURDLY STAGED.

Staged without a doubt! I said it from the sec it happened. No man I know would let a man smack the **** out of him and do absolutely nothing! It would take 5 grown men to pull me off of Will if he smacked me like that! Staged and no one will ever make me believe anything else!

A few things don't stack up cameras and mic were on Will Smith immediately Chris Rock never moved or tried to defend himself and you can see Smith smiling as he walks away ,Security would have thrown out a regular audience member straight away it would have cut to an ad break show would have been stopped and Cops would have taken him away with multiple charges thrown at him.

This was 100% staged. If you got slapped that hard you would be cowering and thinking WTF- that was a hard ****ing hit (you ever get hit in the face? Yeah it sucks). Plus, there is no way someone who isn’t clinically insane literally do something like this live on the Oscar’s. This was staged.

It wuz a fake slap, they have been friends for years, both older and needed the younger crowd to talk about them to remain relevant to the internet crowd/younger generation.
