commemorates the victims of the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. On the morning of October 07, 2023, Hamas fighters raided (among other venues) the Nova Music Festival near Reim in southern Israel. They killed more than 400 festivalgoers and injured many more. The terrorists took numerous people hostage and abducted them to the Gaza Strip. The exhibition was already shown in Tel Aviv, New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Buenos Aires, Toronto and Washington D.C.. It opens in Berlin on the second anniversary.
On October 07, 2023 at 6:29 a.m., more than 1,000 Hamas fighters breached the border fortifications of the Gaza Strip, heading east. They attacked various locations in Israel, including several kibbutz settlements, the city of Sderot and the Nova Music Festival near Kibbutz Re'im, just five kilometers from the border with the Gaza Strip.
That Saturday coincided with the Jewish holiday of Shabbat and Simchat Torah. More than 3,000 people, mostly young people, gathered at the festival site. They were celebrating, dancing and enjoying the songs playing on the loudspeakers. But then the music stopped. Heavily armed Hamas members entered the site. Over the course of the day 411 people were murdered here alone, hundreds injured, and 43 women and men were abducted to the Gaza Strip. In total, Hamas killed more than a thousand people in Israel that day and kidnapped 251 men, women and children.
An exhibition documenting the horrific day at the Nova Music Festival opens today in Berlin. The show, titled
"October 7, 6:29 AM - The Moment Music Stood Still"
displays objects left behind from the festival grounds and tells the stories of the victims. Survivors of the Hamas attack and a relative of one of the victims spoke with GEO about their memories of October 07, 2023.

is the brother of Anita Lisman.
The 25-year-old was murdered by Hamas members on October 07.
"October 7th was a holiday in Israel. Early in the morning, we heard the sirens wail. At first, I didn't think anything of it, because in Israel we are used to airstrikes and the sound of alarms. So we turned on the TV. When we saw the images of the Hamas attacks on Israel, we realized that something terrible was happening. I called my sister Anita to let her know I was taking care of our grandmother. Our grandmother is 90 years old and lives alone. I wanted to go with her to an air raid shelter. On the phone, Anita told me she was at a party and leaving. It was 07:00 a.m. by then. Thirty minutes later, I called her again, but she didn't answer anymore. At that moment, I knew something must have happened to Anita. She was very responsible-minded.
After I lost contact with her, we tried to find her. And for days, we received no answers. My parents were in Spain at the time, and my mother called me and asked why she couldn't reach Anita. At first, I lied to her. I said she was at a party, perhaps Anita had no reception there, or perhaps she was asleep. At some point my mother said to me, "Don't lie to me, I know she was there." We submitted DNA samples that evening on October 7th.
A few days later, we learned that my sister and her friend Segev were killed by terrorists in their car on the street. We recognized their bodies in a video on Telegram. That's how we learned of their deaths. At the entrance to the exhibition, there's a video showing my sister being shot.
October 7th is an important day for me. The closer the date gets, the harder some things become for me. But the pain, suffering and grief are with me every day. October 7th isn't just a difficult day for me; it's a national day of remembrance. The exhibition shows: It was inhuman brutality.
It's a disgrace for humanity that such things even happen. That's why we must not forget this day and its victims. We should remember the dead. But my sister would also want us to celebrate life."
