Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Julia Roberts

With much respect for the late, brilliant Garry Marshall above anything negative:
I do believe if Julia Roberts hadn't worn that god-awful, ugly-ass wig, the movie would have done better.
Around the time filming was to begin for "My Best Friend's Wedding," Julia said something along the lines of (and I'm paraphrasing), "My hair is going to be big and red, the way you all like it" in an interview.
See? Even SHE knows. Julia came on the scene with that big, red hair, and that was a HUGE part of the total package that made her famous. If you think back, in nearly every movie in which she brought in the money, she had big hair. Mystic Pizza, Steel Magnolias, Pretty Woman, Flatliners, Sleeping With The Enemy, My Best Friend's Wedding, Erin Brockovich
Julia has become such a superstar now, it's hard to separate her from a character she's playing as it is. To put her in that horrible wig only made it more unbelievable that it was anyone other than Julia Roberts wearing a bad wig. And that's only ONE of the things wrong with film. Just saying.
Julia, rundon't walkto the hairdo parlor (as they say in south), turn that mop red, and curl it up to high heaven again. I promise your films will make more money! 😉
