Seems astonishing that there are no posts yet. I can only assume they didn't transfer from IMDb or have been purged.
Anyway, I was looking at another thread (under Brief Encounter) and was surprised to see how few films there actually were. He was pretty slow at making his epic films anyway and everything came to a crashing halt with Ryan's Daughter. I remember programs where critics regretted the gleefully vitriolic attacks they made against this film and the effect it had on Lean and his career. Doubtless there is a good book somewhere that lists all the projects lost in the 14 year hiatus that followed.
Personally I've always liked Ryan's Daughter but there seem to be a lot of David Lean I really like, starting with Brief Encounter and Hobson's Choice as two early highlights.
And as an afterthought - if you get the chance to see Lawrence Of Arabia at a cinema then please do so. It's a film that opens out and changes on the big screen.
I have always depended on the kindness of Strangers - and the bastards let me down!
