Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Val Kilmer

I heard Kilmer had a professional slightly personal rivalry for a couple of years. Not that they were vocal in the media but I believe movie offers were given to one that were turned down by the other on a couple occasions.

      I'm not exactly what a
      "professional slightly personal rivalry"
is. A professional rivalry over roles, with a little bit of personal rivalry 5b4sprinkled in? LOL. Just how much personal rivalry are we talking about, here? I cannot discuss this further until the parameters of the rivalries are set!
I'm not sure what years you're talking about, either. Kilmer's been "out of it" for more than a few years now, while Cruise is one of the highest paid actors on the planet, I think, isn't he? If they had any rivalry for same roles at some point I would think it would have been at least 10 years ago. Then again I've never heard of any rivalries between them in the first place, I'm just saying it's not like their career success high and low points match up.

It makes sense. Tom Cruise did a film with Oliver Stone then Val Kilmer did. Tom rebooted Mission: Impossible then Val rebooted The Saint.

Yes, their rivalry in Top Gun transcended into reality.
              Bettah Buttah that toast.
