I think he just gave up on the new era of film producers and different styles of filming.
I've noticed that the directors we grew up with, their style, their formula, are nowhere to be found on their new films. Like Joe Dante with his new film. It looks nothing like his style of directing. Same thing with The Ward with John.
Or, maybe I'm just over-thinking it because I want to see John keep directing.
Although, I'm glad to hear he's producing and writing music.
