at the age of 56? making her the youngest to ever get this award. they usually give this award to actors 76 or about that age. but given that her career started at like 5, about 20 years before most actors it would make sense for her to get this award at 56.

She would deserve it. Like you said, she started working at around 5. MOST five year olds are still learning their ABC's and learning to count, read, and write their names, not working. I know when I was five I was doing those typical things, not working.

oh so that's why you almost never see a 5 year old actor in a movie or tv show. that makes sense then. bc i've noticed that whenever a tv show casts a son or daughter who is the youngest age for a tv show they are always at least 8 years old. ever notice this?
and yes you are right drew was only 5 when she was in altered states in 1980.
i'm just making an odd unique observation that she will be the youngest recipient of the oscar's lifetime achievement award ever bc usually this award is given to a 70 or older actor.

Alexa Vega was 5/6 when she got her first role in Little Giants (1994). Also, Jodie Sweetin was 5 in the first season of Full House as well.
And you do realize that there are movies and TV shows that have baby actors as a child of someone, right?
