A sad loss. It was a great shock to wake up this morning to the news of her death. Lauren was truly one of the last of the classic era film legends.
R.I.P Lauren and all sympathies to her family and friends.

IMDb is obviously a site dedicated to movies, and that is how I know of the great Lauren Bacall, a true legend of films. But she achieved greater success in her stage work, and is associated very much with New York City, where she was born and spent most of her life.
But even more than other screen legends I can think of right now, it was Lauren Bacall's real life persona that most impressed me about her, even more than her film work. She was quite simply real. Authentic. When I think of her I see very little distance between what she did, how she acted in public, things she said and believed, and who she really was.
Who she was also was many things we who followed her all knew - beautiful in a way that was instantly recognizable as unique to her, sexually alluring, the very height of class and elegance, and of course a kind of authentic glamour, which would seem to be a contradiction in terms. Yet in her it was not. She was also quite evidently smart, fun, funny and caring.
Since Bogart is my favorite actor, my fondness for her film roles is placed mostly on the ones she did with him, but I have seen many others of hers, including her stealing the film from that as they say star studded cast in Murder on the Orient Express. Dark Passage may be merely very good, but the others are among the best films done in Hollywood's golden age. She had the luck on them to work not only with Bogart but also great directors. While her roles in To Have and Have Not and Key Largo are incredible, I suppose my favorite is The Big Sleep.
I was very saddened this morning to read of her death, and knew I had to come here at some point this morning. RIP Lauren Bacall.
