Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Lauren Bacall

I'm guessing that Rivers started out ahead of Bacall but fell behind at the end with her shocking remarks about Gazans & Michele Obama and her final stormy appearance on CNN just two months before she passed away.

Bacall was a true legend who had been acting in films since the '40's. She was a true class act. Joan Rivers was just a dousche. Rivers bad mouthed everybody and she wasn't a funny comedienne. I understand why her family is mourning for her, but anyone else? I don't get it.

Rivers was a legend too. And a douche.

Rivers, but Bacall's rep took a nosedive in her last decade of life.

Neither suffered from a bad reputation.

Yeah I guess I could see where Joan might have a bad rep. But she was a comedian.
Why did Lauren have a bad rep? Never heard that she said anything snarky or controversial.

Rivers had a worse reputation with the public, but Bacall had a worse reputation within the film industry.

                        Read the novel
                        Piece of Work.
The character of Mary Ford is based on her, authored by someone who worked with Bacall professionally.
