Rated for 'menace' has become a joke

Which version is that? I'm looking at my copy and it says rated PG-13 for "Stylized Violence, including some Bloody Images". This is on the box, and I just put the DVD in and didn't see the rating reason on the video itself.
I somewhat agree with the term "Stylized Violence" and "bloody images". There is blood to be seen in just about every segment. The scene in "Crossfire" with the bloody mobster staggering around and the one in "Working Through Pain" where Bruce is watching a guy get operated on with no anesthetic can be somewhat gruesome for a young child. If I were a parent, I wouldn't let a kid younger than 7 watch this. Between the ages of 7-13, I might let them watch if I were sitting right next to them through the whole film.
I don't think MPAA was pushing too hard. I think that we, as adults, can sometimes forget about stuff that may be too intense for a young kid.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not one of those people who will try to completely shield a kid from everything bad in the world. That's not possible. I'm just saying I agree with the rating system on this film and I would let some kids see it under the conditions I previously mentioned. -

I think GlobalNode was talking about The Dark Knight - which
did
have "menace" as one of the reasons it was rated PG-13.
For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you. My only son. -

I don't know. I watched really violent movies when I was a kid and I turned out all right. No psychological disorders. Never been in a real fight (just a minor elementary school scuffle once). No predisposition to anger or anything.
But maybe some kids are more sensitive than others. I know some movies scared me when I was little (Predator, Ghost Buster (I was really tiny then), etc.) And really what is supposed to happen when a kid is exposed to violent movies anyway? (I'm not talking about Saw or anything. I just have viewed most PG-13 stuff as pretty tame.)
