Archived from the IMDb Discussion Forums — Marvel/DC

I loved this movie personally, but I can't help but wonder why they didn't WB release solo films first. Wouldn't that have been the route to more money? Solo films that earn hundreds of millions, possibly billions, and then team ups which earn inevitable billions.
DC's first solo films could have easily been about just Superman and Batman. Keep the cast, everyone does a great job, and solo films would let Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck shine and build up they're ideologies. Then the first team up of the DCEU could have been Batman v Superman.
    Phase one

    1. Man of Steel- Introduce Superman
    2. Batman solo- Introduce Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Robin, Alfred, Gordon, and a villain/villains
    3. Man of Steel 2- Introduce Lex Luthor, Jimmy Olsen, and delve into Clark's life on earth a little deeper. Luthor and Superman fight and cause damage in this film, which catches Batman's attention to Superman's potential destructiveness. Batman makes an appearance, and does not trust Superman though the world. First time Batman and Superman appear together.
    4. Batman sequel- Introduce the Joker, have him kill Robin in a Death in the Family plot line. At the end, Batman is left bitter and angry. Superman tries to comfort him but Batman does not want to hear it because in his eyes, Superman will never understand what it is like to be human and powerless.
    5. Batman and Superman team up- A depressed Batman has been ravaging the streets of Gotham and now higher authorities want Superman to take him out. Superman confronts him, Batman still does not trust Superman, and they fight it out. Their fight stops when Luthor unleashes Doomsday on the two. Batman and Superman put aside their differences and team up, with Batman going after Luthor while Superman fights Doomsday. Their fight goes into ocean and beyond where they catch the attention of Aquaman. Aquaman makes an appearance and helps Superman fight Doomsday. Doomsday is killed, but not before killing Superman. Batman defeats Luthor and places him in Arkham Asylum, where Lex threatens all of humanity with a tease of Darkseid and Steppenwolfe. Batman finds Lex's files on metahumans. Aquaman brings Superman's body back and meets Batman. Batman recognizes Aquaman from the meta human footage and shows Aquaman. Batman has a new respect for Superman and he and Aquaman decide to track down the other metahumans to prepare for the threat.
Phase 2- Tracking down the Metahumans!
If I were WB I would have done something like this.

I think WB/DC saw $$$ and assumed $1.5 billion or so was in the bag.

because they wanted to do it their way instead of getting accused of copying Disney-Marvel
IMDB taught me: cynicism is praised. optimism must be stamped out wherever it can be found.

Yeah, and hiring Zack Snyder was really wonderful. The guy sprayed diarrhea all over the DC Universe. The guy can"t even plan out a basic plot thread or basic set up. Gee, I guess Batman was so stealthy ,he fought day glo criminals while riding a Bat bigwheel. No wonder Superman never heard of him for 35 fing years. What did he not have a Bat signal until now? Commissioner Gordon musta used sparklers to summon him, that's why he's an urban legend. Someone should hurl Bat balloons filled with piss at Snyder during the next Comi-Con.

They wanted to get to Justice League as quickly as possible to get to the Avengers money.
If you can't defend a movie without bashing another, you will be put on ignore. No exceptions.

              Simple:
They wanted the MCU money without going MCU way
but when the sh.t hit the fan they scratched their heads and said "we'll go the MCU way".
You're more advanced than a cockroach, ever tried explaining yourself to one of them?

I was fine with the idea of going ahead with BvS but not Frank Miller style confrontation.
World Finest. There is a brief confrontation with Batman already having Kryptonite. Not Mad Batman and shooting guys to kill Superman then a word turning them into girlfriends.
Wonder Woman already knows everything because she was around before all these dudes were born.
                She finds Batman and Superman.
                Easy.
Batman already knowing who each metahuman is.
Do the Victor/ Billy interaction from New 52.
Harley and new Joker certainly needed a solo Batman film set up.
But setting up a Justice League universe is great, it was just bad the way DC did it.

They tried solo films first. The Green Lantern movie sucked.
