I really like what James Mangold did with the Wolverine.
The problem is The Wolverine seemed to have 2 influences. One that made it a smart interesting experience with great flow, dialog, acting and plot. The other was the typical dumbbed down gore feast type thinking so typical of action movies.
These two were reasonably well balanced with some of the pointless gore cut from the theatrical release, but other plot critical parts also cut.
This movie looks like the former to me which is a good thing.
