Clever use of camera angles / lighting and the fact we saw a What if family with Lee (Which confirms no Barbara gordon with her!)
Probably the best sequence so far in Gotham which begs the question, if he imagines Barbara guiding him, perhaps one day he'll go back to her and they'll produce the future Batgirl??

Possibly. But like Barbara said, Jim isn't exactly one for fun (which is what she represents). Quite the shame, and his loss to be sure.
