He could have still done that without having to be killed off Legends. The show was so much better with him on it. Its boring as hell without his character. He was the only one who brought any comic relief to the show not to mention he's not bad to look at.

Filming Prison Break, maybe? Both Miller and Purcell are the main characters on that show, in fact Miller was the one who called up Purcell to see if he'd work with him on LOT.

I suppose CW saw that he character was well and thought to themselves the other shows could benefit from his presence, same as John Barrowmans. I guess both him and Miller thought the offer was interesting and took the job.

He wasn't booted, Miller only signed on for a 1 year deal. Guggenheim stated this was the reason when Snart died. He renegotiated his deal where they have the option of using him for 23 episodes (and he'll be paid main cast status per appearence) as a recurring character throughout all of the shows so Wentworth can stay on as Captain Cold and still retain the freedom in what he does outside of the Flarrowverse. I'm assuming he didn't like pulling the triple duty of The Flash/Legends/Prison Break, as the latter 2 filmed simultaneously.
He's slated to be in the final arc of LoT Season 2, he'll first appear in Episode 9.
