Saw this movie when it first came out. (totally forgot about it) I just finished wacthing it for the 2nd time since it was released and to me it's no different than Dr. Strange. They're both origin films, they have a love interest, they get powers, they get trained to how to use those powers, and fight a villain that look very similar to save the day. Only difference is obviously the update cgi in Dr. Strange.
After watching it I said to myself why was Dr. Strange praised when a similar movie was made in 2011 and was a complete disaster. Dormammu was the same chit as Parallax. DR. Strange and Hal were taught how to use their powers. Hector Hammond played a similar role to Kaecilius. The ancient one was pretty much Sinestro. -

1.) Origin films? Wow who would have thought a super hero movie, the first in a possible franchise, would be an origin movie? Shocking! Thor not withstanding.
2.) Love interest? Nah, really? Something has to bring the women into the movie, the ones who don't like the action films like men do.
3.) Training? Wow! What a shock.
4.) okay yeah you got that one right lol
But seriously the first 3 are basically the same as almost every other movie. Hell the same can be said of Batman Begins.
It is an origin film, he has a love interest, he gets "powers" (His weapons and gear), he gets training from Qui-Gon Jinn to be a ninja. Shocking.
