It's looking like Legion will not be set in the movie universe.
But put away your tissues X-men fans. It's looking like the other series will indeed be in the movieverse. And they will be bringing Sentinels with them.
Donner talking about Legion and gets into the X-men show:

Matt's is much more a part of just the world in terms of there are mutants, mutants are hated and there are Sentinels though very different from what we've seen before. You feel like you're here in the X-Men world.
Matt Nix talking about the X-men show:
    http://www.ign.com/articles/2017/01/12/matt-nix-confirms-the-x-men-tv-series-is-connected-to-the-movies
It's looking more like a New Mutants type show (New X-men?). And it kinda sounds like its a show in the OT and not in the new timeline. Doesn't sound like that mutant underground show that they were talking about before.

I don't like tv shows about super heroes. I'm hoping for Legion to have nothing to do with the story of the movies and be just something apart.
I have any intention of watching this or any other show about super heroes.

Legion won't. It'll be it's own thing. She even says if Xavier shows up it won't be Stewart or McAvoy.

          I'm glad to know.

I feel a bit relieved they decided against connecting Legion to the X-men movies. We really don't need more things mucking up the timeline. I haven't been particularly excited for Legion either, but I will be checking out the show. The other series sounds much more interesting. I'm excited that they are bringing in the Sentinels.
I thought it was great how Apocalypse set them back up into the series. They don't have to get to the level that they do in the future, but I figured some form of them would still exist, since Trask had designed them prior to them using Mystique's DNA and survived in the new timeline.
It would be nice to see Peter Dinklage appear in the show as well. I loved his extra scene at the end of the Rogue Cut.

Yes. Those PROTOTYPES featured at the end of Apocalypse are just that: Prototypes. There is nothing stopping future filmmakers from bringing in the old bath tub toy sentinels in the comics and cartoons. I just love that they trash the authentic Ancient Egyptian look of Apocalypse and yet, they desperately want to see sentinels on film which would look like Power Ranger zords.

Because their designs were bad and slow. Also, we don't need the look of the ones from the cartoons. There are also better designs than the ones that they used in the cartoons. Like Iron Man's suits, they kept upgrading them. I'd rather they were more like tall versions of terminators (not in look, but in acting) that had a sort of mind of their own.

Great interview there with Lauren Shuler Donner. Usually those interviews are short and to the point, but that one got really in depth and revealed a lot about where the X-Men series is headed, particularly on television. Good read thanks for sharing it.
                    It sounds like
                    Legion
is set in the X-Men movieverse but won't interact with it in any meaningful way at all, which is probably for the best. As Donner says "We touch on it" but then a few statements later she's like "No, we're making it separate. We're our own world.", so I'd only expect a few nods to the movie series here and there and almost certainly no interconnecting actors (maybe no interconnecting characters either, we'll see).
                    I love the stuff about
                    Legion
being a villain deconstruction, that right there peaked my interest alone, and David Haller is such a unique character to deconstruct and write a character study for, this should be awesome if it's done proficiently. We only have a few weeks to see!
