spoilers ahoy
I think we're going to get the whole thing from Old Man Logan where he gets mind-fkd into murdering everyone in the X-Mansion, and it's only when he comes to, that he realizes what he's done.
It's a powerful thing in the book, and I think we're going to a version of that in the film.
Everything I see from this movie makes me think that good things are coming from this.

That is an interesting theory, I never thought of that. But good point, we never really see Charles interact with anyone but Logan, so he could very well be dead. There is also a scene where we see Logan and X-23 in a car, and there a shots of Charles in the back. But when there is a wide shot, you can see the back seat is empty.

Either way, I'm really starting to believe in this movie.
I've always believed in Hugh as Wolverine, but the movies haven't always panned out well, but that shouldn't be laid at Jackmans doorstep.
X1 and X2 were fine for what they were, first generation superhero movies. We all know that X3 was a bloody god damned disaster.
And then along comes X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The trailers promised a gritty origin story, and they even hired a guy like Gavin Hood, a wonderful filmmaker. For the first 20 minutes of that film, I was on board, until things went awry. I thought uh-oh, I don't like where this is going. It wasn't until later we learned why it turned out that way. Tom Rothman enters in the middle of the night, then proceeds to viciously and coldly rip the film from the hands of Gavin and morph it into the grotesque bastardization that we saw in theatres.
First Class and Days of Future Past served well as high quality reboots.
The Wolverine. At last, it seemed as though we were getting a real Wolverine movie. They got close. Damn close. But then of course, the whole god damned thing falls apart at the end.
Apocalypse would've been considered a great movie in 2004, but in a post Days of Future Past/Dark Knight world, I found it sadly bearable.
After Ryan Reynolds and his henchmen practically conned Fox into making deadpool, it appears Fox have finally learned their lesson.
The real shame of the whole thing is that we could've been getting xmen films of this ilk all long.

Apparently there is a scene where Charles, Logan and X23 are having dinner with a family, and Charles makes a joke about Logan. If that scene takes place in the present (2029 for the movie) and isn't a flashback it appears Charles is actually alive.

Interesting theory though. As much as Logan is considered a loner he did have a pretty strong bond with Charles. Would make sense for him to see one of his only father figures.
I am hoping that the X-Men scene is incorporated in the movie somehow as well. It was heartbreaking, but one of my favourite parts of the comic.

Spoilers.
It's the best part of Old Man Logan, IMO. He gruesomely murders everyone in the dead of night, virtually in their sleep.
It doesn't get much more brutal than that. And it explains his mentality at the beginning of Old Man Logan. In fact, I have a sneaking suspicision that it's the twist at the end of film.
