I can't say enough good things about this show. Everything from the dark deco look to the score to the voice acting was pitch perfect for the character of Batman. This is a world that is created specifically for this character, and it all jells so smoothly.
The stories told were dark and gritty yet still hopeful. I love how human Batman is. Later on in the DCAU, he's fighting gods and sorcerers and all kinds of powerful beings. But here, he'll struggle sometimes against just human goons and mooks. He takes on a lot hits and doesn't always have some cool one-liner ready.
It's all so beautifully done. So if you're in the mood for a great show, turn down the lights and put on Batman the Animated Series.
So many stories, so little time.
