A father and his five-year-old son were killed in a horror crash after a car swerved onto the wrong side of the road and smashed into their golf cart.
Michael Marlowe, 39, and his young son Bentley were identified as the two victims in the devastating collision in North Carolina on Monday.
Cops took the driver of the car, 23-year-old Austin Ray Harmon, into custody after believing he was impaired when he swerved into the wrong lane.
Marlowe, of Statesville, North Carolina was driving east in the golf cart when Harmon, who was coming West in his 2009 Honda Accord, crossed a centerline, and struck the cart, according to the police.
“Golf carts are a fun recreational activity for folks to get out and go for a ride, but when that mixes with a collision with a vehicle the end is often tragic,” State Trooper Jeffrey Swagger told WSOC-TV.
Four other passengers in the golf cart were critically injured and taken to the hospital by helicopter.
Their ages were 2, 13, 16, and 26.
Micheal and Bentley died at the scene, but Harmon was not injured.
Harmon now faces charges of driving while impaired, two counts of felony death by vehicle, and three counts of felony serious injury by vehicle.
Bentley died at the scene after he was hit by suspected driver 23-year-old Austin Ray Harmon.

His bond was set at $250,000.
WSOC reports Marlowe was the owner of a local auto body shop and was described by friends to the station as generous and helpful.
JR White, a family friend, told the station Marlowe once helped him with his car, even when he didn’t have the money.
“[He was] just a good person to know,” White said.
Bentley’s teacher, Anita Craver, described Bentley to WRAL.com as a “very sweet, sweet boy.”
“[He was] just a child who really got along well with all of his peers and [brought] just a little bit of sunshine every day,” she said.
Loved ones gathered for a vigil held for the father and son at their church Tuesday night.
“You can feel the heaviness in the community around pretty much everybody,” Sharon Chambers, a family friend told WBTV.
“It’s just an overwhelming heaviness of sorrow for them and their family,” she said.
Two different GoFundMes have been established to assist with the medical expenses of the crash survivors.
WBTV reports local churches are opening their doors for counsel to the first responders who bore witness to the crash.
“Why this tragedy, why these things, why children, the only answer I can give is my faith in Christ” pastor Dr. Scott Eanes told the station.
“That’s what gives me hope, that’s what helps me to help others,” he said.

"This is news that you never want to read about. I'm curious to know what the father was doing driving on a highway ? Most, if not all, states don't allow this. They also require that golf carts be registered. Finally, they should be added to one's auto policy for liability purposes.
We can't be quick to judge the driver of the car since the comment made in the story was purely speculative. Was it alcohol, drugs, medications, or simply falling asleep ? These things happen in our lives when least expected. The loss of a husband is tragic enough without adding a little person to it. May Almighty God give the family strength to hold up. It wouldn't hurt to say a little prayer for the driver of the car. Right now, he's probably frightened to death!"

"A very sad event but golf carts belong on the course not the road. No I am in no way defending the murderer just saying people are forced to change their lives these days, perhaps keeping golf carts off the road is another one of life joys destroyed by some punk high or drunk. I feel the same for bikes, they have no business on the roads, they are a menace to the auto drivers and very dangerous."

Ever notice how they ALWAYS say nice things about the dead?
For all we know the dad could have been a wife beating, child molesting alcoholic.
(Since when does anyone sober decide taking their golf cart on a regular car road is a good idea?)
And the kid could have been a terror of a bully always getting into trouble for teasing and punching girls.
We will never know though.
Perhaps there are times the survivors lie about the dead of how good they are.

It is tragic, but in the larger scheme of things, how tragic compared to other tragedies in world full of 7.5billion people? And what was a golf cart doing on a main road. These articles never give one a full comprehensive picture.

I find it curious how Pizza Eye finds these non headline stories and shares them.
(No offense PE. Keep doing what you do!)
Yeah, there are bigger things to worry about and that is what we pick. Our concerns and battles etc…
"And what was a gold cart doing on a main road."
I have never heard of anyone, anywhere taking one out for a joy ride.
And if the driver of the cart was drunk or even if that thing was illegal to have on a main road, the police and DA will overlook that.
"These articles never give one a full comprehensive picture."
Not just presently but also in the future as well.
There never are really any follow ups as to what happened to parties involved in things.
Not just this incident but with so many others.
