Why does Annie act like the butter she spilled on herself was disease or toxic?

When Annie Brackett accidentally spills a little bit of butter on her shirt, she basically freaks out by immediately removing almost all of her clothes except her underwear and socks/shoes.
She then rushes to wash them, like they were infected with rabies/AIDS/something deadly.
This doesn't make much sense, considering it's just a small amount of butter or margarine.
Why do you think she acts like this?
